Julius Debrah Unveils 11-Member Oversight Committee for the 2026 World Cup
Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has officially sworn in a 11-member Ministerial Oversight Committee to steer Ghana’s preparations and eventual participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The inauguration was held at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, November 26.
During the ceremony, Mr. Debrah called on the committee to carry out its duties with honesty, professionalism, and unwavering commitment, stressing the need for smooth coordination before the global competition begins. He further encouraged the members to consider the broader national benefits the World Cup could bring, beyond the sporting aspect alone.
Ghana confirmed its place at the tournament after edging Comoros 1–0 on Sunday, October 12, in Accra—marking the Black Stars’ fifth appearance at the World Cup since their debut in 2006.
Reaffirming his earlier message, the Chief of Staff emphasized that the committee must work diligently and uphold strong ethical standards throughout its mandate.

In a related development, the government has set aside GH¢150 million to support the Black Stars’ World Cup campaign. The announcement was made by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson on Thursday, November 13, during the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament.
Dr. Forson explained that the allocation reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening sports development and ensuring Ghana is adequately represented at the tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
