2026 World Cup: Reinforcing the Black Stars’ Technical Setup Key to Success, Says Dr. Patrick Ofori

Following their return to World Cup qualification, the Ghana Football Association strengthened the Black Stars’ technical setup with the additions of Desmond Ofei, Winfried Schäfer, and Gregory De Grauwe ahead of the qualifiers’ resumption.

After successfully securing a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup—set to be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico—Dr. Patrick Ofori believes further enhancement of the technical team could give Ghana a crucial edge on the world stage.

“Football has evolved,” Dr. Ofori told Citi Sports. “Many teams now rely on dedicated analysts who focus solely on studying opponents—their concentration, behavior, and patterns. Strengthening this area can make a real difference.”

Drawn into Group L, Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before taking on England in Boston and wrapping up the group stage against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.

After group-stage exits in Brazil 2014 and Qatar 2022, the Black Stars head into the tournament with renewed ambition—determined to make a lasting and positive impression at the 2026 World Cup.
