Road to the 2026 World Cup: Jamaica’s Play-Off Journey
The Concacaf road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup has come to an end, producing three direct qualifiers and two teams headed to the FIFA Play-Off Tournament. Jamaica is one of those still fighting for a place at the finals.
The Reggae Boyz fell just short of claiming an automatic spot, ultimately taking second place in Group B of the Final Round. Their journey started strongly in the Second Round, where they dominated Group E with a flawless 4–0–0 record, defeating the Dominican Republic, Dominica, the British Virgin Islands, and Guatemala.
Jamaica carried that momentum into the Final Round, opening with consecutive shutout victories over Bermuda and Trinidad and Tobago to sit atop the standings early. But a 2–0 loss to Curaçao in the October window tightened the group and raised the stakes for the remaining fixtures.
A surprising 1–1 draw in Tobago, sealed by a late Trinidad and Tobago equalizer, meant Jamaica’s hopes of direct qualification would go down to the wire.
In front of a packed crowd in Kingston, the Reggae Boyz fought Curaçao to a scoreless draw on the last matchday. That result secured Curaçao’s ticket to the World Cup and sent Jamaica into the six-team FIFA Play-Off Tournament.
Placed in Pathway 1, Jamaica will first take on New Caledonia. The winner advances to meet DR Congo, with the victor of that clash claiming a coveted spot at the 2026 World Cup.
